1000 Point After Action Reports (AARs) Players:
Richard M.J. Jarosz (Guard Cossacks) vs.Bill
Bartlett (German Grenadiers) The Table: Summer! Most of the terrain was on the Genediers side since they were defending. The Plan: Timing would be critical so I combined 2 of my Cossack squads into one and decided for quick go of it. The Actual Battle: Having noticed he left the main objective lightly defended I conducted a feint on the left flank (which got cut to pieces). My Rocket Battery again could do nothing!!!! When we pressed the attack on the lightly defended one we started to make some headway. If only the artillery had done something (like pinned his troops) we could have won but it came down to the last turn and the last platoon. Lessons Learned: In the scenario timing is very important and I lost a turn (and troops) trying the feint on the left flank. That turn and the extra troops might, just might, have turned the tide, even with the artillery missing the broad side of a tractor factory!!!! Why do I bothering paying the points for them..... Oh yeah! They work against trained troops in the open, but how often do I play against them???? Players:
Richard M.J. Jarosz (Guard Cossacks) vs.Travis Newman
(Finnish Armor) The Table: Summer! A pretty open board except for an impassible river with two bridges and a couple of marshes. Thats was it!!!. The Plan: Since the Cossacks achieved this breakthrough we decided to combine two platoons and send them and the pioneers to grab the objectives. The Actual Battle: The cossacks overran both of his defending gun platoons, BUT when his tanks killed off the Katushas (which by the way did not hit a damn thing again!?!?!) and turned back and destroyed them...... Lessons Learned: This one was hard to win with Cossacks but we made him pay and get only a 4-3 victory!!!! Players:
Richard M.J. Jarosz (Guard Cossacks) vs.John
Tarchis (German Pioneers) The Table: Summer! A small river turning into a stream (or is it the other way around?) running diagonally across the table awith a few standing crops otherwise fairly open The Plan: Attack and grab the objectives quickly. The Actual Battle: He attacked my Rocket Battery... the nerve of him....... and you know what happens to the horses...... against MG Teams that are not pinned. Lessons Learned: Honestly.... This time just a raw deal. |
