Period
Forces for this escalation league will be Mid-war forces, built using the lists
in Afrika and Ostfront from the Battlefront's
website. Lists built using Festung Europa, D-1 or any of the Normady Campaign books
are not permitted.
League Administrator
The League Administrator can be contacted at richard@lonekeep.com . The League Administrator
will play in the league and will be listed in the standings and is eligible to win prizes.
Cost
To make the gaming more fun and get players to complete the League each play will
contribute $1 per to the prize pool. That works out to $3 per month or $9 for the entire
league (that is per army). Each additional game will also yield a $1 contribution to the
prize pool. The cost of the Tournament at the end needs to be worked out but be are
currently looking at a $10 entrance fee. All the monies collected for the prize pool
will be use to purchase Gift Certificates to be used at the Game Room Store, our host for
this event.
Preparation
Prior to the beginning of the league, each player will submit his name, email
address and force type (American Paratroopers, German Panzergrenadiers, Soviet Tankovy,
etc.) to the League Administrator.
Beginning of the Month
Prior to the first day of each month, each player shall submit a valid army list
at the selected point level to the League Administrator. All League games played during
that month must use that army list. While a players force type can not change month to
month without League Administrator permission (once an American Paratrooper, always an
American Paratrooper), a players army list does not need to contain all of the forces he
used during the previous month.
Regular Games
During the course of each month, each player shall play 3 games, each of which
shall be against a different opponent. The first league game between two opponents shall
be counted as their regular game. Points for regular games shall be as laid out in the
Flames of War rulebook (i.e. If the victor loses no platoons, he gets 6 points and the
loser gets 1, if the victor loses 1 platoon he gets 5 points and the loser gets 2, if the
victor loses 2 or more platoons, he gets 4 points and the loser gets 3).
Additional Games
Up to 3 additional games may be played each month against any league opponent.
The second or subsequent game against any opponent is considered as an additional game, as
are games played after 3 regular games have been played. Winners receive 2 points for an
additional game, while losers receive 1 point. A game can count as a regular game for one
player and an additional game for the other player.
Mission Selection
The mission for each game is generated using the table shown below:
| Highest Roll |
Mission |
| 12 |
Roadblock |
| 11 |
Free for All |
| 10 |
Encounter |
| 9 |
Fighting Withdrawal |
| 8 |
Breakthrough |
| 7 |
Cauldron |
| 6 or less |
Hold the Line |
Both players roll 2 die adding their dice together. The player with the
highest total uses his total to determine the mission using the table above.
For 600 point games, all games shall be played using the Free for All mission.
Time Limits
600 point games will be limited to 2 hours while all other game (1000 point and 1500 point
games) will be limited to 3 hours.
Game location and reporting
Players can play games anywhere then report results either in person or via email
to the League Administrator. The winner of a game is responsible for reporting the
results. When reporting game results the following items should be included:
- Player names
- Club and/or Store affiliation
- Game date & time
- Mission played
- Point level of Armies
- Winning player
- Winning player losses (# of Platoons)
- Losing player losses (# of Platoons)
After Action Reports
The losing player of a regular game may earn 1 additional point by publicly
posting an after action report of the game by emailing it to richard@lonekeep.com. AARs should include, at a
minimum, player names, player force types, player army compositions, mission, terrain
description, initial plan, description of the action and lessons learned.
Painting
As this is an escalation league, the focus is on players raising new forces or
augmenting an existing one. Players will receive 0 6 points at the end of each
month based on the painting of their figures. So, while you can start with unpainted
figures, the point is to have your army list for a particular month painted at the end of
that month. Historically accurate, well painted, 3 color minimum paint jobs with flocked
bases will receive a maximum of 6 points with an army of bare lead and resin receiving 0
points. An army completely painted to a normal, wargame standard will receive 4 points,
with bonus points for terrained bases, highlighting, decals, etc. Other factors (having
troops professionally painted, using an existing, previously painted army, etc.) maybe
used to assess painting points. A bonus of 1 point per painted objective, up to a total of
2 points is available each month for those with appropriate painted objectives. The League
Administrator will judge painting points, and it is each players responsibility to ensure
that the League Administrator sees his army before the end of the month.
Historical writeup
Players can receive up to 10 additional points for completing a historical
background writeup for their unit. This writeup should include what unit your troops
represent, where they are fighting, what time frame the unit is fighting, who the
attachments are coming from. (D/502 PIR, 101 st Airborne during the fighting in Normandy,
June 1944, with Armor attachments from C/1-66 Armor, 2AD for example) Bonus points for
photographs, unit insignia, commanders names, combat history to that point in the war,
etc. The number of points awarded will be determined by the detail of the writeup, the
amount of work that went into it, and the difficulty of researching a particular unit. At
the end of league play ( i.e. When 1500 point play is complete ), the League Administrator
will subjectively rank the historical write ups in order of quality, with the best
receiving 10 points, 2 nd best 9 points, etc. down to a minimum of 3 points if some sort
of acceptable historical background is submitted. If you have questions, or want help in
researching a particular unit, contact the League Administrator.
Writeups are due along with 1000 point army lists before September 1st.

Special Rules for 600 point games
All games are played on a 4' x 3' table with both players deploying on the short
ends of the table, regardless of what the mission may specify. Army construction follows
all normal rules with the following exceptions:
Only one combat platoon is required to be taken.
If only one combat platoon is taken in a tank company, the HQ tanks do not have to be
of the same type as the tanks in the combat platoon.
Proxies
No proxies are allowed with the exception of aircraft, without the approval of
the League Administrator. Aircraft can be represented by another model of aircraft used by
that nationality. Variations within a type of tank can be declared to be any model of that
type. (i.e. A PzKw IIIL could act as a PzKw IIIJ, but not a PzKw IVG or Panther) If you
are having problems finding a particular model, talk to the League Administrator and he
will assist you in finding an appropriate model.
Late Entry
Players may enter the league at the 1000 or 1500 point levels with the permission
of the League Administrator. Players that enter at 1000 points or 1500 points will be
given an initial point total equal to that of the lowest active player.
Tournament
Following the end of league play, a 1500 point tournament will be held, open to
all league members and the general public. Placing 1 st through 4 th in the tournament
will generate bonus points to contribute to determining the league championship. 1 st
place gives 25 points, 2 nd place gives 15 points, 3 rd place gives 10 points and 4 th
place gives 5 points. The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, November 3rd, 2007.
